Julie & Julie

In September 2016, Julie traveled with her husband, Kasper, and their daughter, Kamma, to explore Ghana’s capital, Accra, in West Africa. Since then, the family has expanded with the twins Hektor and Elin.

Julie and her husband, Thomas, and their daughter, Ida, moved to Accra, Ghana, in August 2018.

We quickly met and found that we share the same passion for the unique Ghanaian handmade crafts and especially the beautiful handwoven baskets.

We both wanted to bring a part of Ghana to Denmark and inspire others to explore this amazing part of the world and so the idea for Efia was born.

In Ghana, it is very common to name children after the day of the week on which they were born.
Efia is the name of a Friday-born girl in Twi, which is one of the largest languages in Ghana.

The final decision to establish Efia took place on Friday, March 8, 2019 on the International Women’s Day, and since we both gave birth to daughters on a Friday, the name Efia fell naturally to us.

Our commitment is to bring you a range of sustainable, eco-friendly and ethically made products that have a positive impact on both people and the planet.
